2026 public holidays in Spain by autonomous community (Madrid, Catalonia, Andalusia, Valencia and more) plus local holidays by municipality. Updated per BOE.

Spain national holidays 2026 (complete table)

These are the 12 national public holidays in Spain for 2026, common across the whole country. Most are paid and non-recoverable, unless indicated otherwise by the autonomous community.

*Holy Thursday is a holiday in all autonomous communities except Catalonia and the Valencian Community.

In total, the 2026 work calendar includes up to 14 public holidays per year in each locality: 8 common national holidays, 2 national holidays replaceable by each region, 2 regional holidays and 2 local holidays. The exact combination depends on the autonomous community and municipality.

Regional holidays by autonomous community 2026

In addition to national holidays, each autonomous community sets up to 4 regional holidays of its own, published in the BOE (Spanish official gazette). The most relevant for 2026:

  • Andalusia: February 28 (Andalusia Day)
  • Aragón: April 23 (Saint George's Day)
  • Asturias: September 8 (Asturias Day)
  • Balearic Islands: March 1 (Balearic Islands Day)
  • Canary Islands: May 30 (Canary Islands Day)
  • Cantabria: July 28 (Institutions Day)
  • Castile-La Mancha: May 31 (Castile-La Mancha Day)
  • Castile and León: April 23 (Castile and León Day)
  • Catalonia: September 11 (National Day of Catalonia) and December 26 (Saint Stephen's Day)
  • Ceuta: September 2 (Ceuta Day)
  • Valencian Community: October 9 (Valencian Community Day)
  • Extremadura: September 8 (Extremadura Day)
  • Galicia: May 17 (Galician Literature Day) and July 25 (Saint James the Apostle)
  • La Rioja: June 9 (La Rioja Day)
  • Madrid: May 2 (Madrid Community Day)
  • Melilla: September 17 (Melilla Day)
  • Murcia: June 9 (Region of Murcia Day)
  • Navarre: December 3 (Saint Francis Xavier)
  • Basque Country: October 25 (Basque Country Day / Euskadi Eguna)

Exact dates for each region are published annually in the BOE. For companies with workers in multiple communities, it's essential to configure different calendars per location: a holiday error can generate unaccounted overtime or incorrect payroll deductions.

Local holidays 2026

Beyond national and regional holidays, each municipality has 2 local holidays of its own. These vary by locality and are published in the provincial or regional official bulletin.

Common examples of local holidays:

  • Madrid city: May 15 (San Isidro) and November 9 (Virgen de la Almudena)
  • Barcelona: September 24 (La Mercè) and Pentecost Monday
  • Valencia: March 19 (Saint Joseph) and October 9 (Saint Dionysius)
  • Seville: Corpus Christi Thursday and May 30 (Saint Ferdinand)

For companies with operations in multiple locations, managing these holidays manually is a constant source of errors. Time tracking software that supports per-location calendars eliminates this complexity.

How to configure the 2026 work calendar for your company

Ficha.Work includes pre-configured work calendars for every Spanish autonomous community, updated to the 2026 BOE. You can start from your region's template, add local holidays for your municipality, and assign the calendar to specific employees or teams.

Holidays are automatically excluded from work day calculations and vacation balances. If you have workers at multiple sites, you can create a different calendar per location and assign each employee the correct one — without manually configuring each holiday.

Labor law changes for 2026

2026 is a year of significant changes for the Spanish work calendar:

  • Reduction to a 37.5-hour work week: pending parliamentary approval, could come into force during the year
  • Mandatory digital time registration: the end of paper and Excel — only digital systems with individual credentials, immutable records, and real-time access for the Labor Inspectorate will be accepted
  • 4-year data retention: work time records must be kept for at least 4 years and remain accessible

Having your calendars correctly configured from January will save you headaches throughout the year. Try Ficha.Work free for 14 days and set up your company's 2026 work calendar in under 5 minutes, with all national, regional and local holidays pre-configured.
